My Story
“If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.” – Bishop T.D. Jakes
I do not know why, but this was the hardest page for me to write. Perhaps it is because it is about me. It is about who I am and why I have chosen to do this: A Blanket & A Basket.
I am a nurse/nurse practitioner. I have spent my life healing people’s physical needs while fully recognizing that the soul deserves restoration as well; they are so very integrated.
So, the question lies: How does one go from nurse to picnic enthusiast? Well, as the saying goes, “Nurse {physician}, heal thyself.” I needed joy. I needed to restore within myself happiness. I needed to refill my soul. I was at a point in my life where I was searching for “my purpose.” Thus, my journey began which led me to return to school to become a nurse practitioner. While I found satisfaction in being a successful student, I did not find it in the art of the practice. I was lost. “Wasn’t the intention of school to lead me to my purpose?” I asked myself. The answer was, “Yes,” but definitely not in any form that I had expected. The experience of school and a very short-lived NP career allowed me to realize that the art of healing others (nursing) takes form in many shapes. That while my nursing career in the traditional sense was ending, the ability to nurse others’ souls would come in the form of a picnic. A simple yet spirit-restoring picnic. One that allows the invitation for joy to occur. I had come to realize that creating joy and spreading it is my purpose.
My passion for creativity brings me joy. I love to craft experiences that bring joy to others. Through designing artistic picnic scapes, I found joy in incorporating my creativity in a simple but meaningful way. Establishing A Blanket & A Basket allows me the venue to share it with you. It allows me to practice the art of nursing joyfully.
I feel honored that you have entrusted your time and a bit of your soul with me as I strive to spread some joy like jam for you.
Thank you,
Lizanne
